Hospital discharge & home recovery

Coming home from hospital should feel like a relief, not another job.

We prepare homes across North East Lincolnshire for people leaving hospital — cleaned, sanitised, safe to move around, and warm for when they walk back through the door. Then we keep it that way while they recover.

A discharge clean is not a normal clean

When someone has been in hospital for a fortnight, the house has been standing empty. There is food going off in the fridge. There is post behind the door. The bathroom has not been touched. And the person coming home is weaker than when they left — often with a frame, a stick, or instructions not to bend or stretch.

An ordinary domestic clean does not account for any of that. We clean for the person who is actually arriving: floors clear of anything that could be tripped over, pathways wide enough to get a frame through, the bathroom sanitised properly, the bed made up fresh, and the heating on so the house is warm rather than cold and damp.

Families usually find us because they live too far away to do it themselves. Care agencies find us because their staff are commissioned for personal care and are not allowed to clean. Discharge teams find us because a home that is not fit to return to holds up a discharge.

What a Discharge Ready Clean covers

Every home is different, so we agree the list with you first. This is what we would normally do:

  • Kitchen cleaned and sanitised throughout
  • Fridge emptied of anything out of date and wiped down
  • Basic shopping put in, if you ask us to
  • Bathroom and toilet fully sanitised
  • Bed stripped and made up with fresh linen
  • Floors cleared of rugs, cables and trip hazards
  • Clear pathways left for a frame or wheelchair
  • All bins emptied and taken out
  • Bedding and towels washed where needed
  • Heating switched on ahead of arrival
  • Post gathered and left somewhere obvious
  • Photo report sent on completion
For professionals

Referring a patient or client

We take referrals from hospital discharge teams, integrated discharge hubs, occupational therapists, social workers, home care agencies, housing associations, retirement housing scheme managers and case managers.

We can usually attend within 48 hours of a referral, and at shorter notice where a discharge is being held up. If you need us to work to a specific list — an OT's home assessment, for instance — send it over and we will clean to it.

  • One named contact, not a call centre
  • Written quote before any work starts
  • Invoicing direct to the organisation or to the family
  • Photo report on completion for your records
  • Policies and certificates supplied on request
  • Happy to be added to approved provider lists

Questions people ask us

How quickly can you get there?

Usually within 48 hours, and often the next day. Discharges are frequently confirmed at short notice, so ring us as soon as you have a date — even a provisional one — and we will hold a slot.

Does someone need to be at the property?

No. We can collect a key from a family member, a neighbour, a key safe or the letting agent. Our key-holding procedure is written down and we will talk you through it.

What if they are already home and struggling?

That is very common, and it is not too late. We will come and do a one-off catch-up clean, then set up regular visits for as long as they are needed.

Are your cleaners DBS checked?

Yes. Every cleaner who works on a discharge or recovery job holds a current enhanced DBS check, and we are happy to show you the paperwork before we start.

Will you throw away food and belongings?

Only what you tell us to. We clear out-of-date food from the fridge as standard because it is a health risk, but nothing else is thrown away without asking. If anything looks like it might matter, we leave it and check.

Can you make the bed up and put the heating on?

Yes — both are part of a standard Discharge Ready Clean. Walking into a warm house with a fresh bed made up makes a real difference on the first day home.

Do you work with the NHS and social services?

We take referrals from discharge teams, occupational therapists, social workers and care agencies, and we can invoice an organisation directly. If your team has a provider list, we would like to be on it — please get in touch.

How much will it cost?

A Discharge Ready Clean starts at £145 and regular recovery visits start at £20 an hour. The final figure depends on the size and condition of the property, and we confirm it in writing before we start. No surprises on the invoice.
